I Refused to Let My Brother Live in the House I Bought for Our Mom

Kate worked tirelessly to buy her parents a house, with one firm condition: her troubled brother was never allowed to live there. He had a history of bad business decisions and constantly used their parents for money, leaving emotional and financial chaos behind. Kate wanted her parents to have peace and security.

But one day, she checked the cameras and saw her brother standing in the yard, holding up a key she never gave him. Panicking, she called her parents, only to hear her dad calmly say, “Don’t worry. We let him in.” Kate was devastated. Her mother had always favored her brother, and seeing him welcomed so easily made Kate feel like her sacrifices meant nothing.

Kate realized her mom’s loyalty would always lie with her brother, no matter how much she tried to protect them. She feared her mother would twist the situation, making Kate feel guilty for setting boundaries. Her worst nightmare was coming true — her gift of a home was turning into a battleground for favoritism and manipulation.

Now, Kate feels torn. She wants to continue helping her parents, but wonders if anything she does will ever be enough when her mother always chooses her brother. She’s left questioning whether she’s the villain for trying to keep him out — or if she should walk away to protect her own peace.
