I Was Undergoing Chemotherapy, but My Mom Used Me as a Servant Since I Lived in Her House – Until My Friend Stepped In

After a stomach-cancer diagnosis, a 24-year-old woman (Lena) lost her job, apartment, and savings and moved back to her estranged mother’s house hoping for support. Instead, her mother treated her like free labor, posting daily chore schedules even on chemo days, dismissing her pain, and controlling her SNAP food benefits while buying junk Lena couldn’t eat.

The control escalated: while Lena was in treatment, her mother took her EBT PIN, blew the funds on herself, and then secretly sold Lena’s car—her only independence—claiming “my roof, my rules.” Texts demanding errands and housework arrived even as Lena sat hooked to an IV, leaving her exhausted and terrified.

A friend, Mara, saw the exploitation and intervened, taking Lena home, helping her file police and social-services reports, and sitting through every interview. Authorities confirmed financial exploitation: her mother lost access to the benefits, was ordered to repay misused funds, and the car sale became an active theft investigation.

When the mother showed up raging, Lena—backed by Mara—refused to return. She reclaimed her benefits, cut off contact, and began healing in a safe home. Cancer had taken much, but she wouldn’t surrender her dignity: the moment her mother chose control over compassion, she lost her daughter.
