My DIL Returned My Car Totaled after a Trip to Her Friend — She Refused to Pay for the Damages, So I Taught Her a Lesson

I thought lending my car to my daughter-in-law Layla would help mend our rocky relationship. Instead, she returned it scratched, dented, and smelling like a dump—and then lied, claiming it was already in that condition. When my son took her side, I knew arguing wouldn’t get me anywhere. So I taught her a lesson she wouldn’t forget.

After my husband Nathan passed away, I promised to look after our son, Toby. For a while, we were close. But that changed when Layla came into the picture. She charmed me at first, but once they got married, she showed her true colors—passive-aggressive, manipulative, and quick to play the victim.

Layla borrowed my car for a week, claiming hers was in the shop. I agreed, thinking it might bridge the gap between us. Big mistake. She trashed it—and denied everything. Toby blindly defended her, and I realized fighting back would only push him further away.

So instead, I got creative. That night, I quietly sprayed animal attractant all around their yard and driveway. By morning, their place smelled like a zoo. Toby called me in a panic, and I pretended to be shocked. Layla, I’m sure, knew exactly who was behind it. Since then, she’s kept her distance—and Toby, sweet Toby, finally started calling to check in again. Looks like sometimes the best way to fix something broken… is to let karma do the dirty work.
