Father of My Baby Mocked Me for Picking $3 Buns for Dinner at the Grocery Store — Next Moment, My Future Was Rewritten

I thought I was building a future with the father of my baby, but a simple trip to the grocery store revealed a truth I could no longer ignore. When I first learned I was pregnant, I felt hopeful. Jack and I had been together for nearly two years, and for a while, we dreamed about parenthood together—nursery themes, baby names, even the pets we wanted someday. But as my pregnancy progressed, Jack slowly shifted from the warm, supportive partner I knew into someone distant, critical, and easily irritated.

It wasn’t sudden or dramatic. It was small things at first—comments about how I folded towels, the groceries I chose, or how tired I felt. Soon, he criticized the way I breathed or walked, and every grocery trip turned into a debate about prices. I tried to blame it on stress, hoping he would return to the person he once was. Seven months in, during a rainy evening, he suggested a quick trip to the store. I went along, exhausted but trying to keep the peace. But at the bakery aisle, when I picked up a pack of whole-grain buns on sale, he raised his voice, accusing me of being careless and even implying I had gotten pregnant to secure a comfortable life. His words echoed down the aisle, and the embarrassment hit me harder than I expected.
