Two men have been jailed for raping a 14-year-old girl in Rotherham after giving her alcohol and cigarettes. Kessur Ajaib, 44, raped the vulnerable teenager in an alleyway after meeting her in the town centre, while Mohammed Makhmood, 43, attacked her on another occasion after luring her to a graveyard. The assaults took place between 1999 and 2002.
Both men were convicted as part of the National Crime Agency’s Operation Stovewood, the UK’s largest investigation into child sexual exploitation in Rotherham. At Sheffield Crown Court, Ajaib was sentenced to eight years and six months, and Makhmood received seven years. The investigation has so far led to 49 convictions and follows findings that at least 1,400 children were abused in the town between 1997 and 2013.
