A relaxing afternoon in Bangkok changed suddenly when British-Nigerian businessman and social media influencer Igho “Tiny” Ubiribo complained of chest discomfort during a massage with his wife. The 43-year-old reportedly lost consciousness twice before an ambulance transported him to Sukhumvit Hospital. Although he could initially answer questions, his condition worsened before doctors could complete a recommended CT scan. Medical staff moved him to intensive care and continued resuscitation efforts for more than 100 minutes, but he did not survive. Ubiribo had traveled to Thailand with his wife, fashion designer Danielle Simba Allen, for what was expected to be a luxury vacation. Months later, testimony at an Inner West London Coroner’s Court inquest explained why the emergency had developed so quickly.

The couple had been staying at a Marriott hotel in Bangkok, but the outing included a private cosmetic treatment at an unidentified clinic. Allen reportedly informed hospital doctors about the procedure after her husband became unwell. Physicians suspected a pulmonary embolism, meaning a sudden blockage affecting blood flow through the lungs. A postmortem examination was later conducted in Britain, and pathologist John du Parcq compared its findings with those from Thailand. Investigators discovered material in Ubiribo’s lungs that appeared consistent with a substance administered earlier that day—and the specific nature of that treatment became the central detail in the coroner’s ruling.

The inquest heard that Ubiribo had received 40 milliliters of hyaluronic acid and lidocaine as part of an intimate body-enhancement procedure. Assistant coroner Jean Harkin concluded that the treatment caused the pulmonary embolism. The case illustrates why patients considering elective procedures abroad should examine more than the advertised price or promised result. The coroner’s finding does not establish that every similar procedure will produce the same outcome, nor does it replace personalized medical advice. It does, however, underscore the importance of researching a clinic, confirming a provider’s credentials, understanding emergency arrangements, and disclosing complete medical information before any elective treatment. The key detail emerged only after specialists reviewed the postmortem evidence: material associated with the cosmetic filler had reached his lungs, supporting the finding that the procedure led to the embolism.
