Court papers filed in Los Angeles have formally closed the door on one of Hollywood’s longest closely watched marriages. Lori Loughlin, 62, filed for divorce from fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli, 63, on September 4, citing irreconcilable differences. The “Full House” actress listed August 31, 2025, as their separation date, meaning the legal filing arrived more than a year after they began living apart. Married on November 27, 1997, the couple share two adult daughters, Isabella Rose, 27, and Olivia Jade, 26. Their split follows nearly three decades marked by professional success, luxury real estate, and intense public scrutiny. However, the most closely examined detail is not the reason for the breakup—it is what Loughlin has asked the court to decide.
When their separation became public in October 2025, Loughlin’s representative said they were taking time apart and that no legal proceedings were underway. By then, they had also begun unwinding major pieces of their shared property portfolio. Their Hidden Hills mansion, purchased for $9.5 million in 2020, sold in late 2025 for approximately $12.65 million after initially being listed for substantially more. Yet the divorce filing revealed that their financial arrangements had been considered long before the separation: the couple signed a prenuptial agreement one month before their wedding, then quietly amended it in 2015.
Loughlin is asking the court to divide the couple’s property, assets, and debts according to that amended agreement. She also requested that spousal support remain open for future determination and that Giannulli contribute toward her attorney’s fees and related legal costs. Those requests place the 1997 prenup—and its 2015 revision—at the center of decisions involving real estate, investment holdings, insurance interests, debts, and other financial matters accumulated during the marriage. The filing does not specify a requested support amount, leaving that issue unresolved. Their legal history previously drew nationwide attention during the college admissions case, when they admitted paying $500,000 to have their daughters presented as athletic recruits for the University of Southern California. Loughlin served two months in federal prison, while Giannulli received a five-month sentence.
Reports have suggested that the admissions scandal placed lasting pressure on their relationship, although the divorce petition itself relies on the standard legal ground of irreconcilable differences. After the couple’s 2025 separation, they continued selling valuable properties, including a La Quinta estate that reportedly brought $16.5 million. Because both daughters are adults, the court will not need to determine child custody or support. The remaining questions are primarily financial: how the amended prenup will govern the division, whether spousal support will be awarded, and how legal expenses will be allocated.
