Meghan Steps Out Solo in Britain — Her Cotswolds Destination Fuels New Questions

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, quietly reappeared in Britain on Friday, choosing a private countryside retreat instead of a high-profile London venue. The 45-year-old was reportedly seen having tea with another woman at Soho Farmhouse in the Cotswolds, while Prince Harry, 41, was absent. It marked Meghan’s first reported public sighting since the couple returned from California with Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5. The family arrived in the United Kingdom on August 26 after spending six years primarily in the United States. Meghan and the children had remained out of public view as they began adjusting to their new surroundings. Harry later appeared alone at Tower Bridge Studios in London.

The duchess’s destination immediately attracted attention. Soho Farmhouse is a members-only resort spread across approximately 100 acres, featuring guest cabins, a spa, and an indoor-outdoor swimming pool. It is also a familiar getaway for celebrities, including David and Victoria Beckham and Paul McCartney. A source described Meghan as beginning to socialize again, noting that mothers often visit the retreat at the end of the week. Yet the location carried greater significance because the Sussexes have reportedly been exploring homes in the surrounding area—and Meghan’s quiet cup of tea may have offered the strongest clue yet about where the family hopes to settle.

The Cotswolds already hold personal history for Meghan and Harry. They previously rented a country property in the region before moving to Frogmore Cottage, and Highgrove, King Charles’s Gloucestershire residence, is also nearby. Reports now suggest the couple may establish a British base outside London while retaining their Montecito home, allowing their children to experience life in both countries. Such a move would require more than choosing an attractive estate: security, privacy, insurance, mortgage arrangements, and the long-term investment value of any property would all matter. Harry’s continuing dispute over protection in Britain could also affect the decision, although no attorney, court representative, or spokesperson for the couple has confirmed a purchase. Meghan’s office likewise has not publicly announced where the family intends to live.

For now, Meghan’s visit remains a private social outing rather than an official royal engagement. The couple stepped away from working royal duties in 2020, and King Charles has recently reaffirmed that they continue to operate as private individuals with independent charitable and commercial interests. Their return nevertheless places them closer to the royal family while giving Archie and Lilibet a stronger connection to their father’s home country. Whether the Cotswolds becomes their permanent address remains unconfirmed, but Meghan’s choice of venue suggests she is becoming comfortable in a place where privacy, familiar faces, and countryside living come together. A simple afternoon tea did not answer every question about the Sussexes’ future, but it made one possibility considerably harder to ignore.
