Five dead after helicopter crash on Mount Kilimanjaro

Five people were killed after a helicopter crashed near Barafu Camp on Mount Kilimanjaro, according to the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority. The victims included a Tanzanian guide, a local doctor, a Zimbabwean pilot, and two Czech tourists who were descending the mountain when the aircraft went down during what was reported to be a medical rescue mission.

The helicopter, operated by Kilimedair, crashed at an altitude of around 4,700 meters inside Kilimanjaro National Park. Authorities have launched an investigation and are coordinating with embassies to repatriate the victims’ bodies, marking one of the rare aviation accidents on Africa’s highest peak.
