Indoor ant problems can be surprisingly stubborn, especially when sprays and traps seem to work only for a short time. Most people try to eliminate the ants they see, but those are usually just worker ants searching for food. Removing them doesn’t stop the colony, which continues sending more. A more effective solution focuses on reaching the nest itself by taking advantage of the ants’ natural behavior. Instead of repelling them, this method attracts ants so they carry bait back to their colony, gradually reducing the population at its source.
A common homemade bait uses simple ingredients already found at home: something sweet to attract ants combined with a small amount of borax. The mixture isn’t meant to kill ants instantly, but to be shared within the colony over time. Small portions can be placed in shallow containers along ant trails, near entry points, or in corners where ants frequently appear. Over several days, activity often slows as fewer ants return. Prevention also plays a big role in keeping ants away—cleaning crumbs and spills promptly, storing food in sealed containers, and sealing small cracks or gaps where ants enter can help avoid future infestations. While no method works forever, combining bait with good household habits can greatly reduce ant problems and help maintain a cleaner, more comfortable home.
